Steven Seagal Said He Was ‘Ready to Die for Russia’ in Letter to Putin
In a new documentary released on Oct. 10, American actor and Russian propagandist Steven Seagal said he was prepared to fight for Russian President Vladimir Putin and “die if necessary.”
American actor Steven Seagal, who has become a vocal supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin, declares he would be willing to die for the Russian leader.
According to reports, actor Steven Seagal once wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring his readiness to fight and die for the leader. Steven Seagal, the action star known for 1980s and 1990s films like Under Siege, Hard to Kill, and The Glimmer Man, was granted Russian citizenship in 2016.
Seagal, who rose to fame as an action star in the ’80s and ’90s, fell in love with Russia and Putin as his Hollywood career waned. A long string of low-budget direct-to-TV films has been made by him.
Since then, he has been outspoken in his support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2018, Putin appointed Seagal as a “special representative” to promote US-Russia humanitarian cooperation. According to Russian state media, the actor expressed his willingness to die for the president and for Russia. Newsweek reached out to the person representing the actor for clarification.
There is no indication that the 72-year-old Seagal will actually participate in any military activities, combat or otherwise.
Seagal said in his new documentary In the Name of Justice that he was in the Middle East teaching martial arts to people. And I heard that there had been a special operation underway. I was convinced that the letter would reach the president the next day after I wrote it.
The celebrity, aged 72, is reported to have expressed his support for Putin in the letter.
Seagal reportedly stated that he would be on the side of his president, fight on the side of his president, and, if necessary, die with his president.

“In regard to Vladimir Putin, I possess knowledge of both his true beliefs and his attempted actions,” he stated.
Earlier this year, Seagal was present during the swearing-in ceremony for Putin’s fifth term. He informed reporters at the event that he was looking forward to the president’s next term as leader. He is the greatest leader in history. He is the greatest.
One clip that appeared online showed the actor being interviewed, and the reporter asked him what he thought the future would be like. He replied that with President Putin, it would be the best.
In 1987, Seagal got his big break in Hollywood with the movie Above the Law. He went on to make several hit films and worked behind the scenes on several projects. On Deadly Ground was an action-adventure film directed by him.
He had his own reality show called Steven Seagal: Lawman, and he had plenty of TV appearances. The star appeared on Saturday Night Live as a guest host in 1991.
There was “zero truth” in the reports about the actor joining Putin’s war, according to Steven Seagal’s representative.
He also refuted claims on social networks that Seagal was slated to be named Russia’s new defense minister in place of Sergei Shoigu.
He has not been offered this role or expected to be, this is false. His representative told Newsweek in June 2023 that he hopes this war will be ended as soon as possible so that we can all live in peace.
